Hermanns Proudly Served As The Sole Soil Supplier For Toronto's Landmark Port Lands Redevelopment
Hermanns is proud to announce its role as the sole supplier of engineered soil systems for the transformative Port Lands redevelopment project at the Mouth of the Don River in Toronto.
One of the largest and most ambitious waterfront revitalization projects in North America, the Port Lands redevelopment has redefined Toronto's eastern waterfront through the creation of new river valleys, wetlands, naturalized habitats, flood protection infrastructure, and approximately 34 acres of new parkland and public open space.
As the exclusive soil supplier for the project, Hermanns supplied approximately 200,000y3 of growing media required to support the establishment of thousands of trees, native plantings, and extensive landscape features throughout the redevelopment.

Founded in 1991, Hermanns has evolved from one of Ontario's most respected landscape contractors into a leading manufacturer of engineered soils and environmental media. Since transitioning exclusively into soil manufacturing and green infrastructure systems, the company has supplied many of Ontario's largest infrastructure projects, including the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Finch West LRT.
The Port Lands project reflects Hermanns' commitment to innovation and performance-based landscape solutions. Every engineered soil blend supplied for the project was produced under controlled conditions to ensure consistency, drainage performance, nutrient availability, and long-term landscape health.
The redevelopment of the Mouth of the Don River is recognized internationally for its approach to climate resilience, flood mitigation, ecological restoration, and urban placemaking. The project will provide lasting environmental and community benefits for generations to come.
