Soils
Hermanns Contracting manufactures its soil blends at our Schomberg facility. Using our proprietary compost blend as a base, native mineral soils and aggregates are added in balanced proportions to customize performance according to application. All of our soil blends are formulated to promote and sustain healthy plant vitality. For quality assurance and consistency, our soils are periodically tested for conformance to acceptable parameters.
BioEarth™
BioEarth™ is Hermanns own composted “seeding” soil used in all our Terraseeding™ processes and applications. It is a proprietary blend of composted organic sources formulated through research and development to enhance seed germination and provide optimum growth support. It is rich in organic fines with a medium texture and particle sizing of 1 inch minus. BioEarth™ is pH neutral, rich in nutrients, low in salts and high in microbial activity.
Because of its physical and chemical properties, BioEarth™ can be used as an organic amendment for onsite soils, as an organic mulch for topping-up planting beds and as a lightweight, porous growing medium in planters.
BioEarth™ can be delivered in bulk and/or installed by blower truck.
Enviro Blend
Enviro Blend is a lightweight organic soil composed of 70% to 90% composted pine bark and blended leaf compost and 10% to 30% sandy loam. Having a fine porous texture with particle sizing of ½" minus, it has good aeration and drainage properties. It is the soil of choice for planters in high rise or street level planting. Because of its properties, it is an excellent soil to enhance an existing plant or vegetable garden. When dry, its high organic content gives it a dark brown colour and when wet, a rich black appearance. It is pH neutral, low in salts, provides rich nutrient uptake and is high in microbial activity. Enviro Blend can be delivered in bulk and/or installed by blower truck.
Garden Blend
Garden Blend is a rich planting soil composed of over 50% composted pine bark and blended leaf compost with the balance comprised of a loam to sandy loam, native field soil. It has been formulated to provide excellent plant growth support and sustenance and is best suited for creating new planting beds and planting in general.
Garden Blend can be delivered in bulk and/or installed by blower truck.
Enriched Soil
This soil blend is composed of native loam to sandy loam field soil enriched in proportion with Hermanns compost blend. Enriched Soil is an effective alternative for the landscaper engaged in street tree planting and sod where a high organic soil would not be required or favored. The pH ranges from 6.5 to 7.5, is low in salts with a minimum organic content of 4 percent. It has a fine to medium texture and has a particle sizing of ½" minus.
Enriched Soil is only available in bulk delivery.
ProTurf Topdress
ProTurf Topdress is composed of Hermanns compost blend and topdressing sand. It is manufactured through a 5/16" fine mesh screen and is a superior soil medium used for over-seeding and top-dressing applications for sportsfields and lawns. Utilizing the blower truck technology, it can be injected with seed at the time of application for greater effectiveness and uniformity. As it is an organic/sand blend, it is an excellent amendment to enhancing onsite soils and garden beds in general. Using ProTurf as part of a maintenance program will improve soil performance over time and benefit the turf and plant life it supports.
ProTurf Topdress can be delivered in bulk and/or installed by blower truck.
