Jorg Hermanns - President

Jorg Hermanns is the Founder and President of Hermanns Contracting Limited. His apprenticeship in the landscaping industry was served in the nursery industry, to which he added a certification in stone masonry. In the early 90's, Jorg decided to launch a full-scale landscape construction business. His new venture had humble beginnings, operating out of a small farmhouse in Schomberg with no support staff and small contracts, but through networking, perseverance and a growing reputation for excellence the fledgling company experienced sustained growth throughout the decade. By 1999, with a move to its present location, Jorg had firmly established the company as a viable player in the landscape construction industry. Jorg's European background taught him to value quality and right from wrong. These values, along with a penchant for risk-taking and his inherent business vision, he applies to all of his business undertakings. Jorg's extensive reading and travel throughout North America give him access to cutting-edge technology which has been instrumental to the successful growth and diversification of Hermanns Contracting. He led the company through a research project to apply existing blower truck technology to new product mixes for the successful development of a seeding technique which guarantees quality results. This led to his investment in a blower truck fleet which has established the company’s large-scale seeding abilities and results as second to none in Ontario. Jorg has served on the Board of Directors for Landscape Ontario and presently sits on the Board at Beacon Hall Golf Club. An intensive strategic coaching course of study for entrepreneurs honed his extensive leadership skills. Jorg is a team builder and leader who understands the importance of establishing a team of key people that complements his vision and whose skills enable the opportunity for the company's future growth in previously unimagined directions.

Gerd Hermann - Vice President

Gerd Hermanns was born and raised in Germany and in 1979 he immigrated to Canada with his family. His family has an extensive background in agriculture and horticulture dating back many decades. At Humber College, Gerd not only earned a diploma in Landscape Construction, but was also presented with the Award for Outstanding Achievements. In 1991 he joined Hermanns Contracting Limited. Gerd's skills as a Project Manager have led to the successful execution and completion of many landscape construction projects of an ever-increasing complexity and scope. From his role of General Manager, Gerd was promoted to Vice President in 2010. His leadership in this role will ensure that all services provided by Hermanns Contracting are completed in the most professional, creative and efficient manner.

Barb Ellison - Office Manager

Barb Ellison's background includes a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph and work at various positions in the hospitality industry. She got a taste of the construction industry at Slokker Canada Corporation before beginning her career at Hermanns Contracting Limited in 2000. In her role as Office Manager, Barb has been involved in the growth of the company from the ground up with specific responsibility for the administration and organization of the contracting projects and also the development and implementation of many internal procedures that support and facilitate the company’s expansion initiatives.

Gord Kerr – Senior Estimator

After graduating from Ryerson as an Architectural Technologist, Gord Kerr worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia drafting and designing new branch facilities. In 1981, he purchased Barber Construction Co. with a partner. The company specialized at installing tennis courts, hundreds of which were built in Ontario. The company later fulfilled contracts in Canada, England, India and Jamaica installing tennis courts, soccer pitches and hockey fields using artificial turf surfaces. After selling the company in 2002, he became the estimator for Vic Priestly Contracting for three years. In 2005 Gord joined Hermanns Contracting as Senior Estimator. His skills and background have proven to be an important contribution to the company.

Claire Vincent – Accounting Manager

Claire Vincent joined us in 2006 in the role of Accounting Manager. Her scope of responsibilities includes all day-to-day finance activities for the company - financial statements and reporting; budgeting and cash management; accounts receivable and credit; accounts payable and risk management. Claire is also responsible for Human Resources and payroll activities, serving the company's full-time and seasonal employees and its management. In addition, she spearheads development and maintenance activities of our enterprise software. When Claire joined us, she brought with her 25 years of experience gained in the Finance Department of a multi-national gaming manufacturer, from which she garnered her understanding of enterprise software and its development and implementation processes, her advanced skills with audit and financial statement preparation, her leadership abilities and her strong capabilities in various areas of financial management, all of which now advantage Hermanns Contracting.

Gino Turchiaro – Sales & Product Development, Blower Truck & Organics

Gino Turchiaro has been a team member of Hermanns Contracting since November 2009 in the position of Sales and Product Development for our Organics and Blower Truck Division. Gino is a graduate of George Brown College where he earned a Technologist diploma in Construction Management. He is also a graduate of the internationally renowned Dale Carnegie Course, the Dale Carnegie Sales Advantage course and the Klemmer & Associates Personal Mastery Course, which focus on enhancing leadership, management and interpersonal relations skills. Since 1987, Gino has been involved in various aspects of interior and exterior construction specialties; both as a hands-on technician and as an entrepreneur. In April of 1997, Gino began working with a company that was screening and blending native soils from land development sites with imported organics. His primary focus there included customer sales and services. He also assisted with the related responsibilities of business administration, product development and quality control. Gino is very well-liked by his customers and his colleagues. He is results-driven and brings with him vision, superior customer service and a commitment to excellence.

Alt Mangal - Sales & Business Manager – Retail Operations

Alt Mangal joined the Hermanns team the winter of 2012 as Sales and Business Manager for the Retail Operations. He has a wide range of responsibilities with a specific focus on growing the Hermanns brand through various distribution channels and coordinated expansion efforts with our many valued clients. Alt Mangal brings with him expert knowledge in the areas of Marketing and Sales, Business & Brand Development, Supply chain contract management and strong operational analytic experience. As well as having significant practical experience, Alt graduated with honours from Seneca College with a Diploma in International Business. Alts career began while he was still a student with a Mississauga based plastics manufacturing company which specialized in custom extrusions for many sectors as well as consumer based products. Upon his graduation from Seneca he was hired on full-time to help grow their outdoor products division. His tenure there allowed him to have exposure to many facets of the business milieu and helped sharpen his skills for future endeavors. In a few short years he was responsible for managing regional sales from the Central Mid-west to the entire Eastern United States. Over the last 10 years he has worked for companies such as The Miller Group managing business operations at two organic waste processing facilities and IBM in their procurement department specializing in sourcing and contract management. His success is driven by his passion to learn from experience, ambition to develop conceptual ideas into business opportunities and his unshakeable dedication to customer service which he believes is delivered through honesty and a commitment to excellence.
